Switching from bt to ee, cancellation fee? Help!

Go to solution

Hi all, I've been a bt customer for years and currently paying nearly £50 for just 55mb internet... no other services.

On my account it offered me a switch over to ee broadband for 900mb internet for the same price, obviously I took up the offer it said there was no extra charges, no install fee ect.  Ive had the confirmation email about installation on the 15th of may, and then something about i will be charged a final bt bill.

I am now seriously panicking as i have a year left in my bt contract, am I going to be charged the whole remaining bill!? Is it classed as a cancellation?  Can't ring up right now due to the time and bank holiday, hoping someone can help clear this up.

If i do get charged the whole remaining bill, am I able to cancel this contract change?

Thank you

If you used BT when you moved to EE then you will not get an early leaving charge  if you went direct to EE and being treated as new customer then you probably get charge which BT will waive if you phone and explain move to EE. there are other forum posts that confirm no charge when moving to EE

I clicked on the link directly from my bt account (on the bt website) which then sent me to ee to make an account.

Just checked my bt account and its showing there's a new order created for the new hub under there. Does that mean it's gone through from bt directly?

Thanks for the speedy reply

If you used your MYBT to move to an EE offer then you should not have any charges

A lot of people where promised no exit fees when invited to jump ship from BT to EE.

You will almost certainly be billed for the remaining year of your BT broadband.

BT and EE although the same company don't communicate with each other and one or even both of the above will have no record of your offer.

You have fourteen days to cancel .

Contact BT for confirmation of your final bill.

@Pixilate

Don't panic as there shouldn't be any charges for the switch, certainly wasn't for me and many others who've done it.

The only thing is that you'll be in a new 2yr contract.

Thanks for the reply, I spoke to bt directly this morning and they assured me I wouldn't be getting a cancellation charge as I've gone for an upgrade. He's made a note on my account to confirm that's what he's told me. He did say sometimes there's a system error but if I do get a large bill I'm to contact them and they will remove it 🙂
