Taking over account from elderly parent

Go to solution

Hi,

I have recently moved back in with my elderly parents. The account (landline + broadband) is in my father's name, but he is increasingly suffering the effects of dementia. I do have power of attorney and already manage their bank account and other affairs. I know  that, in general, BT does not permit account transfers between individuals and requires a new account to be created but, given the above circumstances, is there a procedure to allow a transfer in this specific situation?

Good morning @AMcL3637.

Welcome to the BT Community!

Account ownership changes aren't normally something we're able to process, as in a majority of cases this would just be a standard line takeover.

If you have legal power of attorney though, I would definitely recommend registering the relevant documents with us, and once sorted you'll be set up as the point of contact for managing the account moving forwards.

You can find all the details you need on how to register this on our help page here.
