Trying to give notice to cancel.

My Broadband/TV contract ends in June.  I have to give a minimum of 30 days to cancel.   I just phoned the cancellation department to give 50 odd days notice and they said as I was cancelling early there would be a £37.??  charge.   I was told to avoid the charge I would have to phone back at the end of my contract.  But that would add another 30 days to my 24 month contract!   As I'm fulfilling the 24 month contract, I'm not cancelling early.

I said can't I just give you my notice now to end my contract on its final day.   The operator said he'd need to talk to someone and put me on hold.   After ten minutes the call was cut off.

Is there a way I can give notice to end my contract on the day it ends without a) making a long pointless phone call and b) without paying a penalty charge?

Re: Trying to give notice to cancel.

Are you moving to a non-Openreach based supplier?

Re: Trying to give notice to cancel.

You can only cancel by calling BT.

Call and cancel just prior to the 30 days notice begins ie give them 31 days notice.
