Unable to get renewal deal anywhere near as good as new customer

I have to upgrade to full fibre within 2 months (gigabit voucher terms). I have 2 months left on my BT broadband contract. Tried online to upgrade and spoke to someone at BT sales for some considerable time today. I would like one of the new EE packages. BT cannot offer me these at anywhere near close to the cost or speeds as if I were a new customer. Do I really have to wait til my contract expires, leave and then join EE???

Re: Unable to get renewal deal anywhere near as good as new customer

I think you may have to leave for some sort of minimum time before either BT or EE will treat you as a new customer.
Despite BT's insistence that it and EE are "completely separate companies", anyone who leaves BT and immediately tries to get a new customer EE deal is recognized as an ex BT customer and denied the deal.
It's BT's way of providing "excellent customer service"!

Re: Unable to get renewal deal anywhere near as good as new customer

Call BT nearer your contract end date. Do your home work first and check out what other providers are charging new customers and make sure you are comparing like for like.

Be prepared to haggle and if you don't get a good offer call back at another time, another CS agent may give a better deal.

At the end of the day, be prepared to leave for a new provider.

There is no set time that you need to leave for until you are a "new" customer but it does mean that you will need to cease your BT Broadband account and then start a new one which will not necessarily happen quickly so you will be without Broadband until the account goes live.
