Hello,
My uncle had a severe stroke in July this year, and the hospital are arranging for him to be moved into a care home.
He will not return home ever, so I would like to cancel his BT Broadband and phone contract. His Broadband contract does not end until April 2026, but I am hoping that, given the circumstances, that the contract termination charge will be waived.
I have access to his account details, but I don't know how to cancel without being charged.
Thank You
Helen Thomas
Do you or another family member have POA, if so, it needs to be registered with BT.
https://www.bt.com/help/account-and-billing/what-power-of-attorney--poa--does-bt-accept-
Once registered, the person with the POA can cancel by ringing up BT.
Hi Keith,
Unfortunately there is no POA.

Helen
Hi @Helen09T.
Welcome to the community.
I am so sorry to hear about your uncle and I appreciate you're trying to help get this sorted.
Have you looked into getting a power of attorney?
There is a helpful page on the NHS website with more information on how to get this: Giving someone power of attorney - Social care and support guide - NHS (www.nhs.uk).
Debbie
Hi Debbie,
Thanks for sending the link, it is very interesting. I will pursue this option and let you know how I get on.
Thank you also for your kind words regarding my uncle.
Regards,
Helen
