i have just received a text with a pin to confirm you are speaking to the right person. I did not call BT or request help - it then says call us now on 03301234150 if i didnt ask for this. Have researched and this is a BT official number. i rang it (i did not click the link) but its too late to speak to anyone and livechat isnt available.
Are there are actions i should take to secure my account?
thank you

BT will not cold call you or send you a PIN out of the blue but it could be a genuine mistake where you have been sent a PIN in error.
However if you did not initiate the sending of the PIN by having called BT or tried to change your password or some other reason it is most likely a scam. If you receive a call after having received the PIN ignore it and do not tell the caller the PIN number.
This method is used by scammers to gain access to your BT account.
The scammers contact BT purporting to be you with an issue. BT then send you a PIN to ensure it is you. The scammer then calls you purporting to be BT and asks you for the PIN which they claim to have sent you so that you know it is BT calling. You then give them the PIN believing it to be BT and this allows the scammer to gain access to your account.
