BT/EE WiFi Hotspots

Go to solution

Following BT moving me to EE I now have no home phone and no Broadband. That is another topic on its own.

What am I connected to here? I'm at home on a laptop and around 1/3 of a mile from the nearest BT/EE WiFi hotspot/s according the checker.

Am I connected to a mast (there are none in the immediate area) or am I using a neighbours router in the immediate vicinity somewhere?

Also how safe is this connection. I'm just using an old laptop for this with no sensitive information such as internet banking etc with this one.

It will be a nearby neighbour who is either with BT or EE, and their home hub is transmitting this hotspot which is separate from their own network, as it carries traffic over a separate Virtual Path, back to the BT core network.

They cannot see your connection, and you cannot see theirs.
