it was actually an old user ID not an email address. I started with Yahoo on BT originally and then I was switched. But I'm a lot happier now I have the old files

I've got you, thanks @Trudiem.

I myself have got photos going back about 20 years backed up in various places, so I know all too well how important it is to find a safe place for those older files. 

Fingers crossed you can locate those newer files too... I think I have a mix of Google, OneDrive and probably iCloud as well, so really should have a sort!
