Norton Safe Search Homepage

Does anyone know how to stop shortcuts from randomly appearing on the Norton Safe Search home page desktop? I'd like to have only relevant shortcuts, selected by me, and to be able to delete unwanted and irrelevant shortcuts.

Hi @Old_Deuteronomy

Thanks for coming here.

You can remove individual shortcuts by clicking on the three dots to the top right of the shortcut and click on Remove.

Re: Norton Safe Search Homepage

Hi Katie, thanks for your quick reply.

Unfortunately, only one of the shortcuts has the required 3 dots, hence my query as I had looked for something like that before making it.  Currently, I have the following shortcuts appearing:

Amazon, SEPHORA, eBay, Waitrose, Morrisons, and Wikipedia. Only the last has the three dots.

My eyesight is not what it used to be but now, looking very closely, I can see a very faint grey, minuscule text beneath the first five that says 'Ad'. Regardless, these shortcuts are annoying, and I don't want them. They (with the exception of Amazon) are useless shortcuts for me. If I want shortcuts on the page, I can add them myself.  Also annoying is that they change from time to time.  Is there any way of removing them permanently and not getting any others?

Hi @Old_Deuteronomy

Could you try these steps please?

Open Norton security, go to "Settings", then "Administrative Settings", and find the option related to creating desktop icons, usually labelled as "Create Desktop Shortcut" and toggle it to "Off".

This should stop any new shortcuts appearing.

The only information that I can find for removing shortcuts was the same as what @Katie_B posted about the 'three dots'.

Re: Norton Safe Search Homepage

Hi Christopher_G.  Sorry for the delayed reply, for some reason your reply ended up in the 'Junk Mail' folder.

Thanks for your advice.  I've done as you ask, but I can find no Administrative Setting relating to desktop icons or 'Create Desktop Shortcut' to change.  Very interesting!   I've checked this out on both my Windows 10 PC and Windows 11 Laptop and cannot find anything on either.

Re: Norton Safe Search Homepage

@Old_Deuteronomy If it is Norton Private Browser you are using and the short cuts in questions are showing as Ads, if you go into 3 dots in the top right of the browser> Settings> My profiles> Sponsored Content and disable Allowed sponsored content to be displayed, does that remove the shortcuts?

Re: Norton Safe Search Homepage

Hi Alex,

Thank you for your clear explanation.

So I went to the three dots at the top right of the browser, on my Windows 10 PC (when pointed to, they light up as 'settings and more (Alt+F)'), left-clicked, and then left-clicked on 'Profiles' (not shown as 'My profiles') but I could not see 'Sponsored Content'. I then used the 'Search profiles' function for 'Sponsored Content', but it returned a negative result.

I then repeated the exercise on my Surface Laptop 3 (Windows 11), with the same results.

I suspect I will just have to put up with this annoyance, as two experts now have referenced settings that are not visible to me, for whatever reason.

Thanks again for the help
