Norton on a laptop with an ARM processor

Go to solution

I have bought a new laptop which has an ARM processor (didn't know this before I bought it or the issues it would cause!).

When trying to install Norton from BT I get the error message...

This process is unable to continue due to a system service that may not be installed or cannot be started.

The workaround is to install Norton from the Microsoft Store. However, Norton is not available in the MS Store in the UK!

Norton's advice...

I've tried chatting with Norton's online help, however, I don't have a subscription with Norton or a product key as it's through BT.

Anyone had success in installing Norton on a ARM processor laptop?

Re: Norton on a laptop with an ARM processor

Hello,

If you're not able to install it, you can always try the following:

- If you're using Windows 7, make sure it has SP1 and SHA2 updates

- If you're using Windows 8 or 8.1, make sure it is fully updated

- If you're using Windows 10 on ARM or ARM32, make sure you're using a newer version (1803+), check this by doing Windows + R then type "winver". If it is older, you'll need to update via Settings or use the Microsoft Website.

- You can also try removing the app/program and trying the installation again. If it doesn't work, contact a local IT shop, or BT.

If this helped, be sure to choose it as the helpful option. If not, I'm sorry that I couldn't help you much.

Hopefully your issue gets resolved,

Chris

Thanks for the reply.

I'm using Windows 10 - Version 22H2 - OS build 19045_2486.

All latest Windows updates installed.

Norton won't install due to it being an ARM processor.

Norton's suggested fix is to install Norton from Microsoft Store. However, Norton is not available in the Store in the UK!

To be fair Norton's online chat has tried to help me - but still it won't install.

Anyone else had similar problems and if so how did you fix?

Use the pre installed Microsoft Anti Virus program.

For information.

Norton states that its free version with BT is not supported on ARM computers

"You can install BT Virus Protect on PCs, Macs, Android phones, and tablets.

ChromebookAmazon devices (Kindle/Fire), Huawei devices, ARM-based devices, and existing iOS devices are unsupported.
