cyber threat protection stops apps updating

Hi I activated Norton Cybersecurity provided with my broadband. (I was using McAfee before that with my BT broadband with no problems). Now none of my apps update even though I clicked the auto update option. They also won’t update manually. If I sign in on my Windows admin account for the PC, I can sometimes update some of the apps/software manually but it still won’t update Microsoft Office. It seems unusable and unsafe. I am considering paying for McAfee again but that would be quite annoying. Anything I can do to fix this?

Re: cyber threat protection stops apps updating

I stopped using the likes of Norton and McAfee years ago as they tend to be resource hungry slowing down your system. The free in-built Windows Security should be more than sufficient for most people these days. Unless you're someone prone to visiting unknown websites or downloading content from unverified sources.

Re: cyber threat protection stops apps updating

Agreed, Windows Defender is perfectly adequate for I suspect the majority of PC users.

Try uninstalling Norton, it isn’t as simple as one thinks. Even using Nortons own uninstall tool, it leaves folders behind that from previous experience, caused pop ups telling me my PC was unprotected when Windows was doing its job. In the end, I was forced to do a full Windows reinstall just to get rid of it.

Just to add that Cyber Threat ISNT updating browsers, software or apps on Windows 11 PC. I have given up on it. BT really need to sort this Add on. It isnt useable and reflects badly on BT as a whole

@Jloglog  As far as Windows 11 is concerned, Microsoft Defender is more than adequate as a frontline anti-virus solution. There’s really absolutely no need to employ any other ‘cyber’ protection but it’s each to their own. From a personal perspective, I’ve never employed any ISP provided security suite, but again, it’s each to their own.
