BT TV activation

Hi,

I have a question about BT TV activation and its relationship (if any) with the BT TV Pro Box that hopefully someone from the community can answer, perhaps even from a similar experience. I'll put some background below

I subscribed to BT TV a few days ago and the TV Box Pro is currently on its way to me. However I have had issues with my longstanding BT ID and it's associated account which only came to light a couple of days ago, so what happened was my original BT ID associated with my account was removed by BT, and I had to create a new one yesterday. The current situation is that so far BT TV has not been activated, the activation date was originally yesterday but has seemingly been moved back to tomorrow. I have had various responses from BT staff as to how my new BT ID may affect the activation of BT TV. Some say it'll be ok, others say that because of a "bridging" case with my old BT ID and my new BT ID this may take 5 working days to go through the system!!!

So to cut to the chase, my question is that if the activation of BT TV is delayed for 5 days does this only affect watching BT TV online - on a tablet or phone etc, or does BT TV also need to be activated to allow me to watch content on the BT TV box itself? If it does affect watching on the BT TV box, is all the content affected or is there some stuff I can watch? Eg, my Now TV account was activated immediately when the order was created and I can watch programmes (eg Sky Sports) online ,so hopefully NOW TV content would be available on the box to watch even if BT TV had not been successfully activated? Similarly Netflix and Amazon etc might be ok to watch on the box without BT TV being activated?

Sorry for the long winded and clumsy question, but any help from the community much appreciated.

Re: BT TV activation

My long winded initial post probably putiing people off answering lol.

Long story short - Does anyone know if you need to have BT TV activated to allow you to view all content on the TV Box Pro? Eg,  is it a showstopper or can you watch and record Freeview channels, watch NOW tv, and view movies and programmes on the likes of Netflix, Amazon etc without activation?

Thanks

Re: BT TV activation

You can watch and record Freeview channels in aerial, but not in IP mode. Amazon yes using your log in details. Not sure about the Now or Netflix app if through a BT sub.

Re: BT TV activation

Hi, thanks for replying.

Just to help me understand fully, can you only ever watch and record Freeview with an aerial, and this can never be done in ip mode? Or can you only watch and record Freeview in ipmode after activation?

I will only ever use ip mode, I wont be able to connect an aerial to the TV Box.

Thanks

Re: BT TV activation

You can watch and record in IP mode after activation. As you'll only be using the BTTV box in IP mode, it would be far easier, and less hassle, not to connect the box until your account has been activated.

Re: BT TV activation

If you connect your box before your activation date, it will work but if you use IP mode your TV region will default to London. It will correct itself overnight after your activation date.

HOWEVER

When you order BT TV, your access to all the online services should be almost immediate - that includes the BT TV app, Now TV, Netflix, Discovery+, etc. Service activation of the online account happens within minutes, and nothing else happens to it on activation date. You should have received emails to activate all the other services shortly after your order confirmation email.

Re: BT TV activation

Update: a quick look at your account shows 2 things:

1. Your old BT ID was deleted incorrectly, which means your account is now stuck in limbo and won't correct itself.
2. Ironically, the advisor you spoke to this afternoon says he's raised a complaint due to the misinformation you'd previously been given, however he's the one who is incorrect.

Can you please email me at tv.apps@bt.com with your BT ID and account number (for audit and security purposes), and I'll get this mess manually corrected for you.
