BT tv box pro old recordings all say failed to record

Had a weird problem happen with my bt tv box pro 4k today.

All our old Freeview recordings are now showing as failed to record, yet yesterday they were all there & free to watch.

Storage is also showing as 100% free.

Any idea what's going on?

Anyone?

Took it back to cex who won't do anything as they can't replicate the fault.

Re: BT tv box pro old recordings all say failed to record

@Quiddity1977

The box suffered disc corruption; the index remained partially intact, it would seem, as it still listed all your recordings, but the recordings themselves became detached from the index entries.

Possibly they were wiped; more likely they were still there, but the box reported zero space used as it couldn’t find them. You would need somebody from YouView to explain the box’s exact thinking at this point, but suffice it to say that the box is reporting used space, and with the chains broken, it thinks that even sectors with data in must be old deleted recordings 😢

I guess you Factory Reset the box, and it came back working, albeit with the recordings lost when the disc was reformatted anew?

20/20 hindsight, that wonderful thing, says you should have taken the box back to CeX before you Reset it, to show them the anomalous state of the disc.

But it may work again now, and never do this again; or it may work for a bit, and then the problem will resurface. Depending on whether the failure was just a chance event, or there is a hardware malfunction that might resurface.

And if it does, you know what to do next time, if it is still within the CeX warranty.

NB: it isn’t your box, as all Pro boxes remain the property of EE TV. Call yourself the unregistered keeper of it 😛
