Bbc 1 hd via Internet mode no dolby digital.

Is it just me or is bbc1 hd via Internet mode not carrying a dolby digital soundtrack? I know not everything is in 5.1 but I know some select programs are.

Due to the dolby bug on the pro box it's hard to tell but the guide certainly doesn't show dolby.

Channel 4 HD is showing dolby however (titanic : building the world's largest ship, has the symbol and is on tonight)

Bbc2 is also fine. (warhorse later tonight shows the symbol)

Anyone else noticed the same?

Re: Bbc 1 hd via Internet mode no dolby digital.

Hi @biohazardx9

The EPG data for 1 (BBC HD) does seem incomplete  to me.

For example it is a HD channel yet none of the programmes info i  Iooked at  have the HD symbol . In fact i believe they only show whether the programme has subtitles or Audio Description. It is as if the the (SD) local BBC1 desciption has been used and the extra quality video (HD) and audio feeds have not been listed in the programme info in the EPG for BBC 1 HD (internet mode)

Re: Bbc 1 hd via Internet mode no dolby digital.

Agreed.

I know strictly always had a dolby signal whether 2.0 or 5.1.

I know match of the day was always 5.1 due to capturing stadium acoustics.

I will make a test tomorrow as I have a freesat hd box (1st gen humax foxsat hdr). That pushes a dolby logo on screen if it's true dolby and my amp will show me what signal it gets.

I will make observations tomorrow.

Re: Bbc 1 hd via Internet mode no dolby digital.

Bbc 1 hd on freesat carries dolby digital 24/7 mostly 2.0 I've not come across anything 5.1 yet but I think there is if I watch something later.(usually dramas, match of the day etc)

One for bt I think to sort out. As I think the new hd local feeds are just the picture and no dolby track. Might be costly from the BBC to do so for every local feed.

Re: Bbc 1 hd via Internet mode no dolby digital.

It seems to be on error in the EPG feed.

BBC1 England and BBC1 South both listing 'SAS Rogue Heroes' tonight at 9pm as being 5.1  -  but it is not flagged as such on the BTtv Guide.

But on BBC2 at 10.35pm 'Here  Before'  is in the BBC listings as 5.1 - and it displays correctly on the BTtv.

It is most likely a listings error - but would have to record it to see the actual output.

BT's EPG has not been too accurate recently so may be something else to add to the list.

It may be they have not updated the EPG to reflect that your local HD feed does not have 5.1 now it has transferred over from a SD feed.

Freesat is dolby digital. Mostly 2. 0 but some are 5.1

Re: Bbc 1 hd via Internet mode no dolby digital.

VirginMedia, Freeview, Freesat and Sky are normally 2.0 for BBC1 - but odd programme will be 5.1.  Adverages about one programme a day.

I'm checking BBC1 Oxford HD on VirginMedia tonight - to see if they have 5.1 audio.

Re: Bbc 1 hd via Internet mode no dolby digital.

So I recorded the BBC1 Oxford HD version of the programme on both VirginMedia and BTtv (IP).

On VirginMedia the audio correctly switches based on the provided stream.  At 9pm it switched from 2.0 to 5.1 and in the fifth minute the rear speakers were obviously active with some background music.

On BTtv you have to choose the audio format so mine is fixed at 5.1.  But at the same point in the programme the rear speakers sprang to life so 5.1 is being output - but the EPG is not reflecting this.
