Thank you for the added confirmation.
In which case, that leads me to a further question.
How does the harmony work with it's remote control.
As in, the unit that I bought, having sent half a morning working on it, I managed to get it to connect to my network, then I taught it my samsung tv's remote settings. I could change channels, but I was limited to a channel up and channel down button. To get from channel 1 to channel 420 would take me forever 🙂 🙂 A football match would have finished by the time we got there!
I was hoping there would be a number pad, so I could just type in the numbers 4 2 0 and get to sky like that.
Therefore, does the harmony have this facility from the phone app?
Or, do you know another make that does?
Cheers,
Graham
Yes, the app has a numeric keypad but Harmony works with Activities. So you set up individual Devices then in your scenario, you create an Activity called (eg) Watch Sky Sport Main Event & then configure the software to turn on the TV, select the appropriate input, turn on the BT Pro Box & then select the channel number.
The Hub has bluetooth but I'd suggest using IR for the Pro Box to prevent any issues with loss of sync. Mine is set up as "BT Vision Youview".
As said previously, you don't want to be using the remote, everything should go via the Hub. What have you bought, or are you talking about the Broadlink?
I am not sure what this means "I could change channels, but I was limited to a channel up and channel down button." You should have numbers on the remote control and also on the Watch TV activity in the app? You just configure with the TV model number and then the hub will send the correct IR signals for all of the remote functions.
Which model Harmony remote control do you have?
With my Harmony Ultimate One there is a soft numeric keypad on the remote control screen but I more usually make use of the Favourites screen to take me to my often used channels: I have these scattered across the channel list so I can easily go straight to one of the main FTA channels or to the BT Sport channels or to the Sky Sport channels etc. From there it is a short tab up and down to a particular channel within that group. Note that Favourites works either to change channel directly or in the EPG to tab to the requested channel.
Sorry, I wasn't clear in my reply.
I was referring to my purchase of the broadlink unit, when I said I only had a channel up and channel down button.
The harmony certainly appears to do everything and loads more, than I need. I appreciate the clarity and continuing replies.
I'm going to purchase a unit, so be prepared for more how do I do this questions when I have it in a couple of days.
Last question today is there a certain model that I should purchase?
You just need to buy a Harmony Hub for the remote control through an app on your phone - there are also a few different physical remotes that will work with hub - some with a screen and some without - these would allow you to program a single button to switch on the required devices and enter a channel number which your father could possibly use.
Thanks.
My Harmony arrived yesterday morning and I have managed to set it up, not without trouble.
It spent all last night updating. Gave up this morning and restarted the hub and it downloaded but then was stuck at 90% for 4 hours on installing updates.
restarted again and it finished off all ok. Including one error which said I had reached the limit of devices - 0!!
Took a few restarts of the hub and the app to get through the final stages of set up, but I have a single activity that will turn on the box and change the channel to 420 for sky main event on my talk talk box.
I then turned off my wifi and was stuck, it didn't work, but thankfully it told me why and following the instructions to activate cloud access I could then do it.
I'm over the moon, this is just magnificent, thank you all so very much. This really will make a major difference to my Father In Laws life.
Glade it works for you
