EE TV Box Pro-Recordable Device in Second Room

Go to solution

Model RTIW387

I have just made the "conversion" from a BT Youview Box, DTR2100 to an EE TV Box Pro.

It arrived with a Mini Hub, DIW3930, for use in my bedroom, which I now realise does not have a Recording function.

I need to use an ethernet connection using my Comtrend 9020 internet adaptors as WiFi will not work in my bedroom.

Does anyone have a suggestion of what Recording device using an ethernet connection would be suitable ???

Thanks in antisipation .....

@atttim

Do you have access to a TV aerial in the bedroom?

But still need a recordable box in the bedroom, my main EE TV Box Pro in the living room does either WiFi or Ethernet, and my present box in the bedroom, Youview Box DTR T2100 only inputs and Ethernet connection for internet, it's NOT a WiFi box.

Therefore question .... Does the EE System allow for EE Box Pro WiFi/Ethernet Box in sitting room, and Ethernet Only Youview Box in the Bedroom ??? Does the System allow 2 Recordable TV Boxes ??

I'm not sure I understand the problem.

You have a DTR-2100 which is a recording box and a TV aerial and you use Comtrend 9020 powerline adapters to get ethernet to the bedroom so you just connect up the DTR-2100 or is that now not an option? If you can use it then it should allow you to record programmes from your TV package I believe.

If the DTR-2100 has to go back as you had it after 13/12/2019 (before that it's yours to keep) then it depends on your budget. A cheap & solid option would be a Panasonic HWT150 which whilst quite old now is a rock solid device. For a modern device I'd look at the Manhattan range.

I would use a DTR2100 for that purpose, especially if I had one lying around 😛

A pair of Comtrends, such as you already have, will solve the ‘no WiFi in the bedroom’ issue.

You will find that as you have been supplied with the Box Mini, you have been granted Multiroom, which will allow you to use both recordable boxes at the same time, including the extended EPG, without having to flip-flop between them.

Put the Box Mini back in its box; its job is done.

Luckily I have presently 2 x DTR-T2100, one I must send back and another one a friend gave me. The bedroom one has never been connected to the internet, only used for recording, playback and the Freeview.
Thank you for suggestions of different equipment that could replace the Youview box.

This evening I experimented with the DTR2100 in bedroom, by connecting it to the Power Adapter, restarting it and lo and behold, unlike the last time I tried a month ago, it fired up and the Apps loaded and everything works ok like the one in my main room. So Monday I will install the EE TV Box Pro and leave my DTR 2100 connected up and hope I don't get any error codes etc
Thanks for your advice which is more or less what I have done. Thanks
