Freeview Option

Go to solution

My broadband deal is up soon and I'm happy enough to renew that as I would actually save £1 a month and get faster broadband. However, when it comes to the TV package I barely watch any TV at all. I only ever really watch Youtube, Iplayer and Amazon Prime. I therefore don't really want to renew my TV package - I have the NOW Entertainment package and the HD for it.

If I cancel the TV Package can I just use the Youview box to watch Freeview and to log into iplayer and Prime? BT have suggested they might ask for the box back if I do this. Will then?

If they do I suppose I can just use my SMART TV to get all the above?

You’re entitled to keep the box if it was supplied to you before 13/12/2019. You probably will be asked to return it, but a Mod on here would be able to help you there if you would rather keep it.

I'd rather keep the box though it's not essential. How do I get a mod to do that? Thanks in advance.

Wait and see if you get hassled to return the box when you cancel your tv contract. Then one of them could intervene and make sure you can keep what you’re entitled to.

No mod support needed, some people choose to keep the equipment and pay the charge for non-return.
If the equipment was sent before 13/12/2019 it's yours to keep, if the equipment was sent after then its technically on loan which is why you're charged for not sending it back, the cost depends on what equipment you have, see below:

BT TV Recordable Box (G4)

£89

BT TV 4K Recordable Box (G5)

£115

BT TV Box Pro

£115

BT TV Box Mini

£61

c) Payment of the non-return equipment charge does not transfer ownership, you must still return the loaned equipment. If the loaned equipment is returned within two years of the non-return equipment charge being levied, we will credit your account (or provide a refund at our absolute discretion) an amount corresponding to the condition of the loaned equipment allowing for reasonable wear and tear.
