I still have the original remote control from 9 years ago when I first contracted to BT. The rewind button has not worked for ages and I can't see anywhere on the BT site where I can swap for a new one?

Yes I do.
Then contact BT and they will send you a replacement. Dial 150 from your home phone or 0800 800 150.
If your box is as old as your remote, you may want to consider re-contracting and getting the latest hardware.
