If you're still looking then there are some old Panasonic PVRs I'd recommend.
The HWT-150 is one I have and is rock solid and still decently quick and has the padding feature which has been one of the biggest gripes about Youview units since their introduction. The same applies to the HWT-130 & HWT-250.
They also don't have some of the annoying screen blocking features like when a new recording starts and when pausing/fast forwarding/rewinding. Plus you can't skip to another part of a recording by touching a number button on the remote by accident.
Manhattans are also quite well thought of.
