I see that ITV Hub was crashing at adverts some time ago but could not see the fix.It is doing it again for us today. Is this a ploy to drive customers to gather advert free pay version

I think there is a bug!

Don't go advert free as it is still streamed in SD not HD unless you subscribe via Amazon Prime whereby no crashing, no adverts & HD.

Alternatively wait until October ish for ITVX

Thanks for that. I have got it going with the usual computer fix - switch everything off and turn it back on again.
