Is the BT/EE box 4K?

I bought a 4K TV and upgraded my Netflix subscription to 4K. The TV and the BT/EE box are connected to the BT hub by wired ethernet connections.

When I play a Netflix 4K show directly on the TV, it is clearly 4K, but when I play it through the BT/EE box, it appears to be only HD 1080p.

Do I need to do something to get 4K to play via the BT/EE box?

Re: Is the BT/EE box 4K?

Our 4K TV had all the HDMI ports set to 1080p and had to go into the TV settings for the appropriate HDMI port set and change it to 4K.

Re: Is the BT/EE box 4K?

Although I plugged the box into an HDMI port labelled 4K 120Hz, that may be the answer.

The user manual says, "HDMI IN (4K 120 Hz): If you use an HDMI device that supports video output in 4K 100/120 Hz, connect the Ultra High Speed HDMI Cable, and follow the instructions displayed on the screen to set the [HDMI signal format] of the HDMI IN port."

This implies that connecting an Ultra High-Speed HDMI Cable automatically triggers manual setting of the port to 4K.

I used the HDMI cable that came with the BT/EE box.

In another section, the manual says, "When you watch 4K picture with High-Quality, use a Premium High Speed HDMI Cable that supports speeds of 18 Gbps" and "To display 4K 100/120 Hz or 8K picture, an Ultra High Speed HDMI Cable that supports 48 Gbps is required."

Does the BT/EE box need the higher 48 Gbps cable? (Actually, they are cheap enough that it doesn't matter, I'll get a 48 Gbps one.)

Re: Is the BT/EE box 4K?

Hey @DavidCheshire, the TV Box Pro should definitely support 4K.

I've just given this a test on YouTube, and my LG OLED TV indicated that it had entered 4K HDR mode when loading up a compatible video.

This is connected using the Purple-ended HDMI cable that came bundled with the box too, so it's definitely worth checking to see what settings the HDMI ports are set to like @David500 suggested.

Have you had a chance to try any other apps with this as well?

Hi @Peter_W

Thanks for confirming that and mentioning that the cable should have purple ends. That's the one I am using.

I also checked the port settings on the TV, which is set to 4K 120Hz.

I'll try out some more apps.
