I have a new EE Pro box. When I return to view a series I have recorded, the only option is to view it on the app e.g. BBC iplayer. I prefer to make an actual recording. When I tried to record the BBC weather, as an example, it recorded nothing - I presume because it is pointless to see old weather broadcasts on iplayer.
Can anyone explain for me how to make a proper recording? I can find nothing in the settings to help me.

In IP (internet) mode all BBC "recordings" are just markers to take you to i-player, there are no actual recordings. You'll also find that you are unable to F/F through the ads on any ITV channel. The only way around this is to factory reset the box and connect to your aerial, (if you have one), when setting it up.
Thank you for the quick and helpful response. Sadly BT don't have answers like yours on their help pages.
We don't have an ariel but might be useful to get one. Otherwise seems a bit pointless to pay for the box when you can buy a recording set top box that is cheaper in the long run.
@Madeleine2 You can record on the Pro tv box. The only restrictions are on the BBC ( directed to iPlayer) and ITV channels( unable to fast forward through the adverts) if you have your box set up in IP mode. Otherwise you can record all other channels, including all of your subscription channels, even if your box is set to IP mode.
Hi @Madeleine2 the EETv help page wrt ip vs aerial mode is

Just to expand upon the responses sofar
BBC recordings are still made in IP mode so if you set a recording it is still using one of the two available IP streams , using up your hard drive space for the recording and electricity to do this , but you will not be able to play that recording back only follow the link to iPlayer if iPlayer offers that programme. You would need to delete the "recording" to free up the box drive space.
In my opinion this is a very unsatisfactory implementation by YouView/EETV of the BBC requirement that play back of IP programmes are routed to iPlayer. There is also the very real concern that not all programmes are available on iPlayer and some only for very limited times (eg 24 hours or a few days).
