T4000 won't update to latest software

Hi,

I just bought an old DTR-T4000 on ebay just for watching freeview, but it is on really old software (Manufacture version: 26.40.0, Component: 3.0.47) and I can't get it to update to the latest version.

If I go to Settings/Software Update it says "You currently have the latest YouView software installed. Software up-to-date".

I think I've tried all the maintenance mode options. Internet/USB Recovery wouldn't even start. (It wouldn't start on my T2100 either, but Software Update worked on that, so I know my network connection is OK).

Any ideas?

I meant to add that I've tried different hard disks, so that isn't the problem.

From what I remember that's the old list version before they ruined it by modernising the interface.

I suspect that all the update links have since changed so the links on your box go nowhere now so I reckon you're stuck on that version.

Some years ago I had a list of all the links used and tried blocking updates with my router but I missed blocking 1 update and then my blocking failed after that suggesting a change to the links and with the demise of Youview support there's really nobody to turn to.

That would be a shame. I prefer most of the new interface and my other boxes use it.

I don't think they provide files for a USB update. That would be handy.

Unfortunately this isn't my area of expertise, and trying to find an expert on legacy and unsupported hardware is difficult.  I did check our logs, and can't see any firmware upgrade requests from your IP address @dac 

Trying to convince someone to spend time investigating this issue for a non-customer on a non-BT broadband line is impossible.

The only thing I would suggest is finding a friend on BT or EE broadband and testing from there.

I seem to recall that once the GUI was updated there were lots of other updates that if not applied would make recording via the guide somewhat difficult. I might be wrong about this as it was a long time ago & memory is not what it once was.

However , if you want just to just use it to view Freeview then I think you'll be OK
