Every day I switch the tv box on it goes through a factory rest before starting- not had it longer than 6 months - used to switch on off on no problem!

Is this a box supplied by BT on loan as part of a BT TV or EE TV package? If so reporting the fault to BT seems the obvious root to getting a replacement.
If it is not a BT TV package supplied box and was acquired privately do you have any warranty from the supplier ?
Which box model is it ?
Also when you say it goes through a factory reset what actually happens when you switch it on .
eg do you get the maintenance mode screen presented to you with choice of options or does it simply launch into a reset ?
Are you entirely certain it is a factory reset and not recurring attempts to do a box update ?

Are you sure it isn't just a power management setting? the recommended setting is 'Smart'
