Updating My Bt humax box

Hello all you good people,

 I’ve been getting this update your box message for ages but every time I clicked ok to update it takes hours and hours and I find the box still on the “restarting your box” page and nothing happens. I stopped it by turning off the box saving my energy and then I decided to do this from the menu with the same dragging on and on on restarting your box , all done. We are restarting your box so the updates can take effect but it never does. Any help appreciated.

Re: Updating My Bt humax box

@MoE1

What model of YouView box is it? If it’s a DTR-T10xO then these are effectively End Of Life, but a DTR-T2xxx, or especially a DTR-T4000 is worth saving.

If it is one of these, then from your description, I would try a Settings/Factory Reset.

You will lose any recordings you have saved, so watch any that you want to before doing this.

If it still doesn’t come back, then it might just need a new hard drive, or it might have an irreparable hardware error. If you want it back working, you have to decide if it’s worth the investment of time and money to try , or to source a secondhand, but working, replacement, buy a new Manhattan T4, or give up on recording altogether, and just watch On Demand.

More detailed advice available if/when you have narrowed down your options.

Re: Updating My Bt humax box

I had that with my DT4000 box. Troubles started when it would not change channel and picture froze. Then the update problem when update was not completed. BT replaced the box with a Pro box.

Sorry, I was misled by the olde-worlde description ‘BT Humax box’, which didn’t make you sound like an EE TV subscriber.

And indeed, you do have an olde-worlde box there, a DTR-T2100. Nothing especially wrong with it - I still have a working DTR-T2110 in the guest bedroom - but given that BT would have swapped you up to a faster, and 4K, DTR-T4000, and now the even faster and more capable Box Pro, on request, you’ve been a bit short-changed 😢

Hell yes, ask for a Box Pro, and toss the failing T2100.

Bt replacing it to a new box although soft reset by then sorted it.

🤦🏻

If you have it back working now, and you had it before 13 December 2019, then remember it’s yours, and you don’t need to send it back to BT if they suggest this (you can, but you needn’t).

Still useful for a second room then.
