When you pause Live TV or a recording why does the channel indicator stay on obliterating the screen

I guess it is designed that way, so that you know you've paused it.

You can then press the back button to remove the offending time bar with channel indicator.

Brilliant Richard, many thanks. As you say using the back button makes it disappear. It was annoying me when I froze the picture whilst watching sports to check on something.
