Does your mum watch lot on internet provided services such as iPlayer, ITVX etc? If not at all then she will still be able to watch and record Freeview programmes as before. If she does do a lot of streaming then a Chromecast or Firestick dongle plugged into a spare HDMI socket on her TV will turn even the dumbest old TV into being smarter than the latest model on the market.
