hello,
I am a current BT TV customer and a Plex user with a not-so-smart-tv. I'd like to have as few remotes as poss (so don't want to add a roku/firestick/etc. to the mix just to get Plex to work if I don't need to).
I see that EE are/were providing the apple TV box instead of the YouView box as part of their subscription/package. This would be ideal as I understand it runs the Plex app (and I cannot add the Plex app to the BT TV box)
So, the question — can I somehow work it so I get a free Apple TV box from BT/EE and if so, how?
thank you
Solved! Go to Solution.
@friscokid you need to phone and transfer your existing package to new EE and then you can swap your existing youview box to the EE apple TV box.
You would need to transfer your BT broadband to EE broadband as well though, so you may need to haggle if your already on a good deal.
As you may know you'll need to go with the IP channels and won't get all the Freeview channels that you would with your existing youview box.
Thanks very much for the reply and info @Weerab1983. Everything has just finished contract so hopefully not too painful to do this swap...
Sorry for my ignorance but not sure I'm clear what I'd be losing out on. Is there a link perhaps that shows the difference between what I'd be getting via AppleTV/EE vs YouView/BT? My understanding is there's an EE app on the Apple box that 'emulates' the TV guide browsing experience of the YouView box to access the channels.
The Box Pro experience on EE Is the same as on BT.
Yes, the EETV app, on an EETV AppleTV box, emulates the Box Pro experience, for a Box Pro in IP Mode - no aerial, selected Freeview channels delivered by EE over the internet - and with no recording capability.
Actually, pretty much the Box Mini experience, exactly.
Except that outside of the EETV app, you also have everything a standard AppleTV box can do.
thank you @Midnight_Voice appreciate the info.
This sounds like the solution for me. If you could add apps to the YouView box then there'd be no issue but alas this is where we are!
thanks everyone
