I get very poor reception (picture pixelates or goes black) on HD channels, particularly BBC. I have a BT YouView box and router.
I have no problem with broadband reception.
Is there something I can do to improve reception with the above or are such issues to do with my aerial?
Hi @MickWooden
If this only effects the channels that you receive via the aerial, then it is likely to be the main issue.
What happens if you plug the aerial directly into your TV? Do you have the same issues?
If not, then it might be that your signal is actually too good and you need to dial it down a bit using an attenuator. You can pick these up from places like Amazon.
When the Freeview signal is too strong, it can cause issues with TV boxes, less so with TVs.
Also worth checking for any local weather or Freeview work that could be an issue.
If that all sounds like a faff, then you can talk to your local aerial installer for advice, but even if you do, it might still end up being a faulty box, so worth doing what checks you can first.
The aerial is plugged directly into the TV.
When using TV only I cannot view HD channels at all: "NO SIGNAL" displayed.
Which Youview box do you have. If it's the Pro Box, and you have a BTTV subscription (which you probably will have with the Pro Box), then you can revert to IP (internet) mode. You will loose some channels, but it'll bypass any aerial installation and subsequent problems.
I do have a BT TV subscription.
I think the box is a basic YouView. No other identifier apart from "BT item code 882506" underneath.
Has this always been the case or started recently? If the latter, work your way through this.
I'm pretty sure it's been that way for a long time, not a recent change,
