You are not being fobbed off, you are being given very good advice. The BT mail app is dire, always has been always will be.
There are countless far superior free mail apps that you can use, Blue Mail being my app of choice.
Why keeping hitting your head against a brick wall.
Because I am a BT customer who expects them to provide software to work with their services which I am paying for.
As you are already using the Gmail app, why not simply add your BT email account to that.
