I don't understand all the options for my signature

The recent changes in the appearance of my BT screen(s) are most unwelcome. However, I may get used to them. At least I don't have to sign in almost every day any more. But my signature (Regards) appears about 5 or 6 lines below the last word I type in an email. How do I get it to appear on the second line after my last word (i.e. leaving one blank line)? Also my name then appears three or four lines after 'Regards'. How do I get it to be on the second line after 'Regards' (i.e. leaving one blank line) ? There are three or four options in the 'Settings', but I just want one:

Regards

Albert

Is this too much to ask?

Log onto your account and go to the signature in settings. 

There are only two options, Above or Below your message.

If you already have a signature, click on the edit icon at the right hand side and it should bring up your signature which you can then edit to how you want the message to read.

You can not alter where it is displayed after your message.

If you do not have a signature already or if the above signature is not displaying as you would like it is probably in plain text so you should delete it and then click on "Add New Signature". It will give you an option for Plain or Rich text. Select Rich text. A box will open and you can compose your signature and format it how you want. Click "Save".

Again you can not alter where it is displayed after your message.

Thank you for your previous reply, DS.

I deleted three signatures (which I knew nothing about), leaving only one ('Regards' followed by 'Signature', two lines below). The signature was weird, It appeared to offer 'Regards' followed by 'Signature'. I tried to change 'Signature' to my first name, but BT was having none of this. I then guessed that I had to add one new signature (my first name) so that it would put 'Regards' followed by my first name. So I did that and saved it as default.  I then tried composing an email. No signature whatsoever! What did I do wrong? Until the most recent 'improvement' (LOL) my emails were automatically signed off with 'Regards' followed by my first name. If I was emailing my children, I would delete all that and type 'Love' followed by 'Dad'. If I was sending an email in a formal way, I would add my surname to my first name. I had no idea that I could have several signature formats. How do I tell the computer which signature I want it to use?

If you have more than one signature you can select one of them to be your default signature if you want. This will be the one that is always used unless you select another one.

To select another one you compose your email as normal. You will see at the right hand side  "Options" . Click on that then click on "Insert signature" This will allow you to select one of the other signatures that you have.

If you do not make one of your signatures the default signature none will be automatically added. You will need to add the signature your self as I outlined above for changing the signature.

As regards having the signature at the top of the page it is to allow people to put a welcome greeting or an address or some other thing that they would like the recipient to see first.

This (i.e. what follows) is no criticism of you, DS. I suppose it is the world of nonsense that we live in. You wrote:

That is, something that nobody in the history of the world would call a signature.

I have another question associated with this signature business. The system (LOL) offers the two options for Signature position: Above the original email, or Below the original email. I don't understand the use of the word 'original'. What does it mean? Why isn't my signature position simply 'Below the email'?

Assuming you have the box ticked "Reply quoting the original text", if you wish to reply to a received email and you are are using the "Reply To" function rather than starting a new email, the email you are replying to is the "original" email.

Your signature can be below the original email ie the one you are replying to or above the "original" email ie at the end of your reply which will be above the original email that you are replying to.

As regards the use of the word "signature". In the context of emails this does not need to be what you regard as a signature ie your name. It can be anything you want it to be and can include text, images, your electronic business card, a logo, a link to a web site or even your handwritten signature.

The best thing to do is to make a signature of your choice then try the different options to see where it gets placed in an email when you compose an email and reply to an email and if you want to see how it appears to the recipient just send it to your self and reply to your self.

I do think you are over thinking this and all you really need by the what you have said is "Regards Bert"  and if need be another one "Love Dad" and place it "Above Original Email" as I suspect you will have the box ticked to include the original email and when you reply to an email you will use the "Reply To" function. 

When it is placed like that there is enough space above the signature to start composing the email and the signature will move down the page as you type. 

But having said that, personally if that was going to be my signature(s) I would just type it in.

My signature has re-appeared, as if by magic! ('Regards' followed two lines later by my first name). I'm sure it was nothing I did, just as it was nothing I did that caused it to disappear.
