PDF read-only in mail

I cannot read mail messages except where there are PDF attachments. The messages are not available .

The folders indicate the number of messages but they are not accessible  on computer. I can read on mobile.

I have sent a message with PDF attachment previously.

Log onto your email account and go to the "View" button on the right hand side then scroll down and select any "View" you want except "Attachment View" which is the one causing your issue.
