Re: Adding BT Mail account to Microsoft Outlook

No, still wants an 'app password' (which clearly doesn't exist). I'm giving up and waiting to see if MS get this sorted out. Thanks for your help.

Re: Adding BT Mail account to Microsoft Outlook

That's totally weird. It is the mail provider that insists on an app password if one is required, not the client.

Re: Adding BT Mail account to Microsoft Outlook

When you set up Windows 11 did you enter/make a Microsoft Account username and password?

If you did have you tried using that as the app is from the Microsoft store so it may require to verify via your Microsoft account.

Re: Adding BT Mail account to Microsoft Outlook

Hi

Thanks for the suggestion.  Yes, I do have a Microsoft account and have tried that, but what you suggest doesn't work.  It all works fine with my Outlook email address, as does old Outlook.  Frustrating !

Re: Adding BT Mail account to Microsoft Outlook

Hi,  I'm still having the same problem with 'New Outlook'.  BT email works fine with the original Outlook but not with the new version; I can't add it to my list of mailboxes in New Outlook.  When I try to do so, I'm asked for an app password which it has been suggested that I get from my IMAP email provider.  My BT password doesn't work, neither does my MS password.  I don't know what it's looking for, can anyone help please - it seems to be a fairly common issue.

Re: Adding BT Mail account to Microsoft Outlook

As stated previously, it is the mail provider that does or does not require an app password for less secure apps, not the client.

BT do not require an app password.

Why do you think it's a common problem? As far as I know, you are the only person with the problem, I haven't seen any other posts regarding requiring an app password.

Re: Adding BT Mail account to Microsoft Outlook

HI Licquorice,  Thanks for your interest.  My assertion that this was a fairly common problem comes from a few MS forums regarding problems with IMAP on New Outlook.  One of the suggestions from a MS forum was simply to" keep trying" and I can now honestly say that I am dumbfounded as my latest attempt, following your success, using exactly the same password and settings as I have done previously, has worked and I now have access to my BT mail on New Outlook.  Sounds unlikely, but I've checked back and am sure that all my settings used were unchanged.  I'm no expert but I like to think that I do know what I'm doing; but now I'm not so sure 😉

Perhaps MS have tweaked something ?   But it now works, so all good (until the next update).....

Re: Adding BT Mail account to Microsoft Outlook

It all rather points to the problem being with New Outlook, which I find to be an absolutely awful app in any case.

There are much better mail clients out there.
