Re: The Dreaded Error Code 553

Go to solution

If you were not the BT Broadband account holder who original set up the BT email account and it was for instance set up in a parent's BT Broadband account it may cause problems trying to resolve ay problems.

What would normally happen if an email account is set it for somebody else, the email account should be "gifted" to the person so that they could set up their own BTID and MyBT in order to manage the email account.

see link

Creating BT Email addresses? | BT Help

If that was done it would show in their MyBT and would be able to be managed and if need be transferred or "affiliated" to another BT Broadband account.

see link

Can I move my BT email address to another account? | BT Help

I am not sure if this can now be done particularly as it is not showing in your MyBT or even if it can be moved to a BT Business account at all.

I have asked the moderators to have a look and comment on this thread.

As regards your Error 553, it may be resolved if the whole account situation can be resolved.

Re: The Dreaded Error Code 553

I have just realised the MY BT I logged into today is a closed account, as it was an old residential account I had 5yrs ago.   I cannot remember logging in ever to MY BT business - or registering and they seem to want another email address. ie can't be the same as it was for a closed account.  That's why I never registered for MY BT business online.    The email address btinternet.com was not originally registered in my account name so thanks but the issue  looks like to just accept that particular situation and use my admin@mydomain as my business email address from now on.  Thanks for trying to help everyone.

Hi @LexLu

Thanks for posting, the strange part of this is that it might be linked to an older account like your parents.

Do you know if this account is still active? Alternatively, as @gg30340 has mentioned could it be transferred to a current account that has an active Broadband Subscription with us?

I've sent you a private message asking for some details to try to help with this.

Thanks

Stuart

Re: The Dreaded Error Code 553

Hi @LexLu

Thanks I can see you have sent your details in via private message.

We have a number of cases in the queue ahead of you so I have a suggestion to try in the meantime.

If you have a family member or friend with an active residential broadband account with BT you could have them follow this process:

Can I move my email address to another account

This would import your email address to an active residential account as email addresses not associated with an active residential account could be ceased.

Thanks

Stuart

Thanks Stuart

But no I don't, only a 96 year old Dad who wouldn't be able to handle anything like this.  Thanks
