Well, @EJB , assuming you're using Windows 10, I would first check what e-mail app is set as the 'default'. Click the Windows Start button, then Settings, Apps and Default Apps. At the top, under "Email", see what's selected. It could be "Mail", "Outlook", "Outlook (new)", Outlook (pwa)", Thunderbird or something else.
If Microsoft has its way, it may well have set Mail as the default and depending on other factors such as how you login to your Windows PC (i.e., a local login or a Microsoft account perhaps using your BT e-mail address as the login ID), it might be running automatically. Microsoft have a habit these days of making changes to our PCs without asking.
Open whatever is the default e-mail app to see what it says and also check your startup programs with Task Manager and the Startup tab as this may offer a clue as to what is going on.
In any event, the error message "Your BT internet settings are out of date" is related to a local application and not to the general discussion about the BT webmail problems.
I hope that helps.

Thankyou....will report back.
PS. Windows 11 all round.
It's slightly more convoluted to find the default e-mail app in Windows 11. It's still Settings -> Apps -> Default apps but scroll down to "Mail". Click it and look for "MAILTO". Whatever shows there is you default e.g., "Outlook (new)" or even a web browser such as Firefox.
When selecting default apps...for mail:-
I get the option to select a default.
MAILTO
MS-UNISTORE-EMAIL
OUTLOOKMAIL
In that order...I haven't selected one however does this mean the top one is the default App?
This is identical on our 3 machines.
@EJB I've started your own thread to avoid confusion with the webmail feedback thread you posted on.
Neil
Those entries are not apps but links or protocols. To be honest I'm not entirely clear what the second two are used for - something internal I think.
Just look at the entry under "MAILTO", Mine shows "Outlook (new)" (the new e-mail app that MS are promoting) but yours will probably shows simply "Mail". (BTW the Mail app is being deprecated in favour of the "new" Outlook app).
Whatever shows there is your default e-mail app. Clicking it will allow you to choose another app as the default such as "Outlook 365", "Thunderbird, "eM Client", "Edge" or whatever. If it shows "Mail", then it's likely that the Mail app is running automatically and then encountering errors leading to the "Your BT internet settings are out of date" message. You'll then know what's causing the message.
This is what I see:-
BTMail.....as in your link.
