BT have helped me solve after New Year , and have changed software. Hopefully this will stop the recurrence.

hello kickstart ... i have been unable to send emails from thunderbird or my bt mail page for 5 days , i spent 30 mins on phone 3 times and as they say ... 3rd time lucky , the bt tech guy i spoke to was very helpful unlike the previous 2 that were humm harring as they were googling the problem.
Guy 3 gave me an email address to send him an email , i did not get error 553 but the webmaster/damian mailer system set it back to me.
I was told by number 3 to turn power off on pc and hub for 25 minutes , he went on to explain that for some reason an ip address can somehow get blacklisted ?????
I did as i was told and i sent some emails ...... it worked .... at least if it happens again i know what to do.

Glad it's sorted out. Sometimes turning the hub off can work, as as far as I know the IP address changes when the router is powered off for sometime.
Having a blacklisted IP address isn't a stigma, just a one machine taking a dislike to yours. If you can't un-list,it the server you use can. Also I've noticed if you reply to large legal bodies by email, don't add too large attachments.
If it keeps occurring, scale it up and BT will get back to you. It takes a while, but persevere.

today i tried to send emails again but failed ...... spent another 40 minutes on phone with no joy , told them if its not sorted i am leaving them ..... its not funny anymore
Hi @mjs-warlord I'm really sorry you're getting an error 553 message when sending emails, are you using a VPN?

no i am not using a vpn ...... its one of the first things they ask .... i have to copy all unsendable emails into a gmail address so i can send them but that NOT an exceptable work around
