iPhone issues with BT mail account

My wife and I have iPhone6s which have worked reasonable with our BT internet mail boxes. On occasions we have problems with reports of invalid passwords but these usually disappear in a day or so without any action on our part. Two days ago I replaced one iPhone with a new iPhone 12 and migrated the settings, apps  and data from an IPhone 6, creating a complete copy of the iPhone 6. The copy was completely automatic, two phones side by side and it all happened in 15 minutes. Both of our phones have entries for our individual email accounts. No secrets! Mine continues to work completely, my wife’s new iPhone 12 will receive emails but not send them. Nor, any longer, will my iPhone 6 or iPad send her emails. My laptop using Outlook also still sends emails from  my wife’s email.

Is this a BT problem that will correct I self in time as suggested in another post or do I have to delete the iPhones/iPad and start again?
