safe senders and blocked email domains

Can anyone tell me which takes precedence between the email settings safe senders list and the blocked email list?

I (inadvertently) blocked gmail.com

If someone with a gmail.com email address is in my safe senders list as <name>@gmail.com, would an email from them still get through to my inbox?

Thank you

Re: safe senders and blocked email domains

You will need to unblock the gmail domain or you will get no emails from that domain.

If it is an email that uses gmail that you want to block you just need to block that email address, not the domain.

To unblock the gmail domain log onto your BTMail account using a browser, not an email client/app, and then click on your username at the right hand side.

Select "Settings" then go to the left hand side and select "Mail". Scroll down and click on "Blocked Senders". Scroll down the list until you find the one you want to unblock and select it. Click on "delete".

Re: safe senders and blocked email domains

Thank you for your reply.

Yes, indeed, I know I won't get emails from any gmail.com addresses if it is in my blocked list.

I inadvertently blocked it, and as soon as I realised, I deleted it from the blocked list.

I am trying to work out when I, by mistake, blocked it.

I received an email on 28 Oct from a gmail address but that person's email address is in my safe senders list.

So to rephrase my question:

When an email comes in, is it checked against the safe senders list first, and if on that list, let through, then against the blocked list? If so, getting the email on 28 Oct doesn't tell me whether I blocked gmail.com before that.

Hope that makes sense.

Re: safe senders and blocked email domains

If the domain is blocked it will block all gmail addresses regardless of if you have one in your safe senders list.

Re: safe senders and blocked email domains

I seem to have just proved the opposite.

I logged into my BT email via the web interface, added gmail.com to the blocked list then tried sending an email from a gmail address I have to my BT email address. It didn't get through.

Leaving gmail.com on the blocked list, I added my gmail email address to my safe senders list, sent another email from my gmail to my BT address and it got through.

So the fact that I got an email from a safe sender listed gmail address on 28 October doesn't tell me gmail.com wasn't already on the blocked list by then.

Anyway, useful experiment.

Re: safe senders and blocked email domains

I find that surprising. I would have thought that blocking the whole domain would have blocked all email addresses using that domain and as such even ones in the "safe senders" list would also have been blocked otherwise what would be the point of being able to block a domain if exceptions can be made.
