A spam address(es) which seems to be unblockable

Go to solution

Hi

Nothing massively important here, but for my personal satisfaction I do like to block domains which send me spam. I recognise that there will always be more addresses generated and I can never win outright, but I do like to block anyway.

However I have come across an address which when it appears has the "block sender" and "block domain" options always greyed out when I tick the box. Obviously I don't want to click into the actual address or message further.

The address has several beginnings, such as Solar Financing Home or MARKS & SPENCER or Car Emergency Kit. Then there's a space, and the the last part of the address is always <noreplay@uchicago.edu>  Just to confirm "noreplay" is not a typo. I can delete the message.

Any thoughts on why this address is different, and how I can block it ? I'm getting 2 or 3 messages a day from this address.

Edit - just say I've now received several messages from <noreplay@louis.uk.net> , and I can block the domain and the sender on these.

Cheers  Jeff Scott

You will need to enter the email or domain into your "Blocked Senders" list manually.

Click on the "More" button in the menu bar at the top of the email list. Scroll down the drop down box and click on "View Source". This should open a page that show you all the information about the email.

Look through that information and you should fined numerous references to the email address that sent you the email.

Once you have that information you need then click on your username at the top right hand side then select "Settings" then click on "Mail" in the left hand column and select "Blocked Senders".  The Blocked Senders list will open.

In the email box click "Add" and enter the email address or the domain that you found when you searched through the source.

Once you have done that you will find that you have just wasted about ten minutes of your life because Spammers are constantly changing their sending email address and domain and as a result it really is pointless trying to block them.

The "Block Senders" list is only of use to block genuine email addresses that you no longer wish to receive emails from.

When spam emails arrive in your email account you are best just to delete it. Do not open it because all you are doing is alerting the spammer that they have found an active email account and more spam is bound to follow..

Just to add that the email address is actually a BT address :

btprdrgi034 dot btinternet.com

Don't know if you can do something about this, or whether there are so many it's not worth bothering about.

I can't do anything about spam email on the BT systems because I am not employed by BT. I am a customer just like you.

If you have a read through this link and send the email to the following  phishing@bt.comto have it dealt with.

I should have added, do not block the btinternet.com domain or you will not receive any emails from any BT email accounts.
