When my wife and I visit family in the USA, email via pop3 on Outlook 2007 on my laptop, and on two mobile phones normally works the same as when at home in the UK. We’re on a visit now but this time Outlook can't receive emails on any of our three btinternet accounts. The same applies to our two mobile phones. I can still access BT emails via webmail on the laptop but it’s far less convenient. The problem seems to be at BT because pop3 emails via Outlook from a non-BT account are working normally. I’d appreciate any suggestions as to how to restore normal service.
Had a surprise yesterday, after about 48 hours of no emails downloading, two days-worth of emails suddenly appeared on the two phones. Normally the same messages would download into Outlook on the laptop as well. But when I try, I just get the same message "Task 'xxx@btinternet.com - Receiving' reported error (0x800CCC0F): 'The connection to the server was interrupted'." The messages are still present in webmail. So the situation now is that BT is letting the app on the phones (K9 Mail) download emails, but it won't respond to requests from Outlook to do so.
When the phone got your emails were you using a mobile phone network?
If so it may be that the network you are using your laptop on is on a blacklisted used by BT.
Try setting your mobile phone up as a hotspot using its 4/5g connection and log your laptop onto that to see if it works.
Thanks for responding, but all I have at present is the house WiFi connection so both phones and the laptop are using that. However, come to think of it, we spent some time in a restaurant before I spotted the emails. Maybe the phones connected to some other WIFI without me realizing. Since the unexpected batch of emails, no more have followed, even though there are some new ones showing in webmail. (Good idea about the hotspot test - I'll look into that).
The email clients/ apps use different server access to webmail hence you can still get webmail.
Still no joy with receiving emails via my relative's domestic wifi (with SSID Fios-t****) but it does seem that the BT email system is blocking this particular internet provider. I've now tried connecting via four other wifi systems: a MacDonald's. a hotel, and two coffee shops. The two phones and Outlook on my laptop received my BT emails perfectly normally at all of them. I can't see what I can do about it, but it helps to narrow down what's happening.
