BT Basic Mail - from when has this been available?

Hi,

How long as BT Basic Mail been available as an option to downgrade to / have when leaving BT?

Asking as have been on BT Premium Mail for a while due to the cancelling of free BT Yahoo talk21.com, which then went up to £1.60/month, then £5 and then £7.50 despite being told that it would never be charged, then never go up.

Having this available is great - BUT BT never informed that this was an option until I just found out about it this month.

Thanks.

Don't know exactly, but it's years rather than months. Probably when BT abandoned Yahoo

Re: BT Basic Mail - from when has this been available?

I may be wrong but I suspect tht you are paying for BT Premium email because you chose to move to a BT Premium email account.

Had you not done that you could have kept your talk21 email account for free although it would have been "downgraded" to a basic email account which can only be used via a web browser and not with an email client or apps.

It was the case that you had to ask for a downgrade to a basic account but now it happens automatically if you leave BT.

I can not recall what information was given to talk21 users regarding keeping their email address but you must have been given something by the time you have agreed to pay for a BT Premium email account.

EDIT: I have found information that the BT Basic account formed part of the "new" BTMail which started in late 2020.
