BT Email MCP cannot operate continuously due to security regularly requiring to resecure the mailbox

I built a BT email MCP server so i could use AI to process and triage my emails. The MCP server i built works flawlessly but the issue i have and is why  the MCP not fit for purpose and cannot be released to the public is purely down to BT's inbuilt security that periodically, not instantly, recognises the MCP's activity as suspicious and then requires a resecure of the mailbox. This happens every few/2-3 days. If BT provides an APP password to allow this kind of usage unrestricted then the MCP would be fine.

There is no point in upgrading to a PRO email account as the price is not right. £7:50 per month is not the right price, when O365 comes with apps and an email address and works already with an MCP for half that. So BT you will not convert customers to Pro even if you add the MCP functionality or enable APP password for unrestricted 'bot' access to the servers unless you get the price right probably circa £2 per month not £7.50.  Even then Gmail is free and has an MCP server and none of the IMAP and POP issues, so i doubt savvy users would convert. I only have the account as i have had it for 20+ years and its going to be a pain to migrate to another account completely, but this issue is a deal breaker.

Re: BT Email MCP cannot operate continuously due to security regularly requiring to resecure the mai

For BT Email is a deprecated service. New customers do not even get BT Email addresses.

I am afraid if you want a provider who supports what, frankly, is a niche application then you are going to have to go elsewhere as BT isn’t going to support this.

I have had a BT email address for a similar time. It is now more of a bind than anything else as it makes moving provider difficult.

@ochapple

from your post you are no longer a BT customer and have an existing account but on basic using web mail.  as @Colin_London  posted BT no longer allow email for new customers so unlikely to make changes for ex customers

@ochapple  This might come as a shock and awe suggestion, but why not just choose a different email provider that gives you you what you want and move on from BT Mail. In the long run, it’ll probably save you a lot of hassle going forward.

It isn’t that difficult migrating to a new provider, it’s all about having the will to do so. I’ve done it myself 3 times in the last 15 years, I’m not at all sentimental about email addresses or phone numbers for that matter, there’s too much important stuff in life to worry about.
