Where is preferences on the Safari menu. I can see settings but there is no appearance

I can see the post regarding Safari but it doesn’t make any sense - where is preferences on the Safari menu?

Good morning @dmhelsby, welcome back to the BT Community. 

Each browser is slightly different in its options and setting, but is it via a Mac that you're using Safari, or is it an iPhone / iPad?

For the desktop version on a Mac, I've found this thread on Apple's Community that says preferences should be under the Safari option at the top of the screen.
