Device used to send an email query

Go to solution

Hello All. Please can anyone tell me,  if I still have an email from just over 10 years ago showing in my email inbox would BT be able to tell what kind of device I sent the email from?  Ie. From a pc, laptop, mobile etc.  This would help me massively with a legal situation I am unfortunately caught up in.  Thanks for reading and any help would be greatly appreciated.

No you can not find what specific device sent an email.

You may be able to find out the IP address in the headers of the email which would identify the connection that was using that IP address at that time but I doubt the records will be kept for 10 years. ISP generally only keep them for a few months unless it is specified in law that certain ones need to be kept longer.

It would in any event add nothing to what you already know.

Hi Distinguished Sage,  Thank you very much for taking the time to reply to my query.
I managed to speak to someone at BT earlier this afternoon after I posted my question,  who told me just about word for word, what you have written. Cheers again.
