EMAIL hack - autoforward

Go to solution

Hi My emails have been hacked over the weekend (22/11/25) so I've changed my password and made amendments to the autoforward instructions put in place by the hacker. My deletion of the forwarding email address made by the hacker seem to have been saved ok but I'm still getting a pop up window in my email window stating that 'your autoforward and rules settings have been changed. To review or change the settings go to Settings - Mail - Auto forward and Settings - Mail - Rules'

Why is this pop up still appearing if I have made thenecessary changes to negate the hacker's autoforward / rules changes ? To be honest the pop up box doesn't look like an official BT type instruction. It's a yellow box with blue type font. It may well be an official BT message but doesn;t look like it. Any ideas anyone what I can do to get rid of these pop up messages or  does it signify the hack is still 'live' Thanks

The pop up is a security warning to tell you that forwarding has been changed or set up.

It is automatically activated by BT and can not be turned off by you or anybody else. If it could be turned off hackers could also turn it off and it would not alert you when forwarding is set up or changed.

It will automatically turn off in a few days.

Re: EMAIL hack - autoforward

It is you that can delete the fake email address from your BTMail "Forwarding" section.

Log onto your BTMail account and then go to the settings found by clicking on your user name at the top right hand side. Go to Mail in the left hand column and then to "Auto Forwarding"  then untick the box "Enable Auto-forward." and click "Save".

The pop up will reset any time that you make a change in the forwarding section. It normally stops after a few days or even after a week or so.

If you have not already done it you need to make sure you have changed your password since you were hacked.

If by getting the fake email deleted you mean the actual Hotmail email account you would need to contact Hotmail about that although I doubt they would do that without proof of ownership. It has nothing to do with BT so they would not be able to do anything about it..

If you mean delete the email address in the forwarding section and you are not able to delete the email address as mentioned above you will need to call BT Email Team 0330.1234.150
