Hello again,
My old email address was hacked yet again this morning, auto-forward set to : [Email redacted].
I have removed this, but I need to reset everything including my BT id. Last month I was hacked and I created a new email account, but I could not change my BT id or remove the old account for some reason. This time they had also changed the Bt Community password. This is happening every month now, it's getting beyond a joke.
Cheers,
[Mod edit - email address removed, please don't share any personal information in public]
They have not yet given up, they have now changed my email password, any help would be useful.
Change email provider? That isn’t a flippant remark, it’s a serious suggestion.
You need to get somebody who knows what they are doing to examine all your devices/laptop/PC or what ever you have to see if there is any malware/ key loggers etc on your devices.
You also need to check who has access to your devices and who you may have given your password to.
You need to check and clear all your browsers to ensure that they are not storing your username and passwords for any sites including BTMail.
It may be a pain to have to enter your passwords etc manually but if your device has been compromised it is a gift to the hacker to have your passwords all in one place.
might be easier to setup anther email on bt then delete old ome i think this will now act as a bt id
if they have your bt email of courese
on outlook for example create an alas set that as primary and bar logins from that address
Hi @enfield250.
If your BT ID is being changed repeatedly, then that would usually indicate that the details the reset is being sent to has been compromised somehow.
If I try to reset mine it sends a one time PIN to my mobile number, are you finding the same, or is it something different?
Peter
Until you have established how the hacker got into your email account you are wasting your time doing anything such as changing your email supplier or your passwords.
If it is your device that has been hacked or simply accessed by somebody other than your self that has access to the device the hacker will be able get your "new" passwords etc.
Other than causing you hassle I fail to see what gain the hacker has got by changing your password for this forum. While it is a problem stopping you getting into the email account and logging onto your MyBT what if anything else has the hacker done?
Have the gained access to any accounts that actually matter such as your bank etc?
Hello!
I have been in contact with BT, and all is good again, for now.
I got a message this morning to say that my two-stage authentication had been turned off.
So I checked my BT Email account and the hacker had set-up an auto-forward and email rules.
I removed these and then he changed my email password and also my BT community password.
When I tried to login to Email, I got a message saying my account wasa not secure with a link to secure my account.
The default email address was bogus and the mobile number ended in a 7 whereas mine ends in an 8.
I have run a full scan on my PC and nothing has come up.
When I tried to delete the email account that had been hacked it said I couldn't do it because it was my BT Id.
How do i change my BT Id so I can get rid of the email account that keeps getting hacked?
Cheers,
Thanks for the update @enfield250.
I'm glad to hear you've managed to get in touch with our team to update your password, and if you wanted to change the overall email used for your ID, they'd be able to take a look into this for you, too.
Peter
I'm reading this thread with disbelief, how can BT claim to have a secure 2FA system that is only used sometimes. I'm seeing logins from brand new devices in a new city get straight through without challenge, which I'm pretty sure has allowed hacking to occur.
