I am experiencing a continuous 'loop' of requesting username/password but cannot enter my details as the page refreshes every few seconds and doesn't allow me to enter details; this has happened occasionally in the past. I have tried shut down / restart, restarting the hub, but no joy.

Restarting your hub is going to have zero effect on web based email. Try clearing your browser cookies and cache or try a different browser.
I have recently been experiencing the same problem with Microsoft Edge on the infrequent occasions I need to access web mail (usually to deal with inappropriately identified as spam emails). To get around the endless looping, I either switch to Firefox or restart Edge.
I switched from Google Chrome to Edge and this worked a treat (Chrome is still problematic); the BT app works fine.
