Hi, I recently had a problem accessing email while abroad. For some reason I was asked to enter a code that was being texted to me. Unfortunately, I did not have any phone signal and therefor was locked out of my email.
Now back in UK, I thought I would amend my two step authentication to use an alternative email address rather than my mobile number. This doesn't seem to be an option. Is two step authentication only available as a text to a mobile number? I have created a Gmail account specifically to receive two step authentication codes.

You can set it to send to an email address. See link.

If you have it set to send to a mobile number already just click on the "Edit" button and you will be offered the option to add an email address.
