How to transfer BT emails to another provider

Go to solution

Hi,

I have been using my bt email address for the last 16 years and I am looking to move to another provider as we will no longer be with BT.

I would like to transfer all of my emails and I do not know how to go about doing this. If I could have some assistance, this would be great.

Many thanks! 😀

You can not transfer an email address if that is what you mean.

You can not transfer all your individual BT emails when using webmail (using a web browser).

You would need to use an email client/email app. You could then set up your BTMail account and your new email provider's email account within the email client/app then drag and drop the BT emails into your new providers email account.

For information in case you are not aware, your BTMail email account does not get deleted when you are no longer a BT Broadband customer. It get downgraded to a BTMail Basic account which can only be used with a web browser or you could pay £7.50 per month for a BT Premium email account which will retain the email account with the same functions as it has just now.

My Premium email is going to stop working tomorrow unfortunately so what will I have to do to transfer them. Sorry I am still unsure of the procedure.

Would having a standard rather than Premium email address help?

Can I also use the BT Mail app?

An (admittedly very laborious) process you could use is just to bring up individually every email you want to transfer and then Forward it to your new mail account. You can of course do this whether you are on premium or standard BT email.

It has already been explained in the message I posted above. There is no easier way to explain it.

A BT Standard and a BT Premium email account are exactly the same except you pay for the Premium email account.

You didn’t answer my question concerning if you could use the BT Mail app.

Also the prices are ridiculous. I would pay if it was £1 - £1.50 per month but £7.50 is extortionate. If this could be corrected this would be great.

No, you can't use the BT mail app for another email provider or with BT Basic email (why would you want to, it's dire).

It is not clear if you are moving to a different broadband supplier or email provider.

My patents (who I have the account with) are moving broadband suppliers.

Also - how often do I need to log in before my account gets deleted?

The account is not deleted, it is just downgraded to Basic Mail. When that happens could be days, weeks or months depending on when BT get around to it. Frequency of logging in is totally irrelevant.

You need to log in at least once in a 150 day period if you decide to keep the BTMail account after it has been downgraded.
