Important Email disappeared

I have been using BT emails for many years. Because of this, banks, accountants, and everyone else in my personal business forum uses this medium to contact me. Yesterday I received an email from my accountant. It had an important, password protected, document attachment.

I opened the email and the document today and spoke to my accountant. On completion of our business, I closed the attachment. The entire email complete with attachment totally disappeared. It had not been moved into his folder. It was not in Trash, Deleted, or any other folder or box.

In this instance, I was able to contact my accountant who resent the email and attachment. I out that into my folder.

This is just not good enough. I have been suspicious of other, less important, email going missing after opening. My computer is protected by Norton antivirus plus the Microsoft security program.

Has this happened to anyone else?

My EE account commenced about six weeks ago, taking over from my BT account (I have been a client of BT for over twenty years). As well as Broadband (which now takes three times as long to load) I have the TV package. The box and remote supplied by EE does not perform anywhere nearly as well as the previous BT box. Plus there no instructions with the remote. For me, this has been once massive step backwards with regard to communications and the relevant technology.

I am so angry with this whole EE/BT amalgamation business, I am seriously considering taking my issues to a senior governing and licensing authority.

Re: Important Email disappeared

Make sure that the "Conversation" View is not active. To do that log onto your BTMail account using a web browser and click on "View" in the menu bar at the right hand side. Scroll down and Single click "conversation view" to toggle it on or off.

When you toggle it on or off you will see the name "Conversation View" change colour from grey to blue when it is turned on.

Re: Important Email disappeared

Dear Distinguished Sage,

Thank you for your comment and tip. When I checked the "Conversation View" was already grey. I turned it on and it changed to purple. I have now put it back on the grey format.

What exactly does the conversation view do, and have I got it right by turning it off as suggested?

Regards

T

Re: Important Email disappeared

Conversation View gathers all the emails that are in the same conversation ie when you use the "reply to" function.

When using Conversation View there is a number placed beside the email title in the email list. This number indicates how many emails are in that conversation.

It can give the impression that emails are missing because you only see one email in your email list.

There is no right or wrong in using Conversation View. It would be up to you if you would like that feature, personally I have it turned off.

Are your emails still going missing?

Re: Important Email disappeared

One thing I do is print each email as they arrive - very old school and I have paper files. Obviously this not the best solution for almost anyone but may be worth doing.

It sounds like an awful entire email thread thing was p ut on by BT which once happened on emails via another provider to me. I do not think anyone likes it and it is horrible. I think you can turn it off as someone suggests below and go back to normal emails

Re: Important Email disappeared

No other emails have disappeared, that I have noticed!

The system spends more time streaming now than it did a month ago. This includes the TV box since installing the new EE box. The EE box is inferior in so many ways to the previous BT box.

The best of all is that I am informed by EE that costs are going up from the end of March in order to improve all the systems through development. It's not as good as it was a year ago, so is the development to bring it back to where it was?

Re: Important Email disappeared

The "conversation" wasn't turned on! I would have changed email providers years ago had it not been the long term usage with utility companies, banks, et al. And they can be a nightmare to change.
